photoshop Alan Sugar
To photoshop the Alan Sugar photograph I took the photo and placed it in photoshop, I then used the lasso (L key). Using this tool I marked around his head. Next I used the quickmask (Q key), this turned the mask red so that I what sections I had missed at all. I changed the colour to white so that all of his head would fit and was even. I selected all the area I had missed. I then selected cmd J to turn the photo into a new layer so that the head was on it's own layer. I moved the layer over to the photo of sugar using the (V key). Once the head was in the photo of the sugar I selected cmd T so that I could change the size of the head and move the head to the place I wanted it to go. Finally I saved the image.

These are one of the before and after pictures of my in solitude work.

photography treatment:- in solitude.
- Type of production and brief details on Subject/Concept:
I am going to be taking photographs of in solitude of photography. I will be doing this around town and college and possibly home. I hope to be able to get the mood right in the photograph to show the 'in solitude'. I will be taking about 4 or 5 different pictures under the same title.
- Facilities: What facilities do you need for this project list all including software and hardware for the whole project?
For this project i may need to use photoshop to help create the picture of solitude. Most of my photographs are going to be taken outside as it is easier to find things in solitude in the out of doors as it is more spacious and i think the natural lighting could work well with some of the photo's.
3. Finance: If you produced this project outside of the college you need to show how much it would cost to hire the equipment that you intend to use.
Tripod:- for 3 days £30.00
Camera:- for 3 days £41.25 (canon camera)

5. Presentation: How will you present the pictures? Will you include a soundtrack, think about copy writer issues etc.
I havent decided if i would like to use a soundtrack yet possibly if i can find the right piece of music. If i edit any of my photographers I will present the before and after so that people can see i create the picture, although i am hoping to get some where i do not need to edit.

Portraiture
Portratit photography was mainly used by royalty. They started with the affluent people getting paintings of portraits but as the camera became more popular more everyday people began to take portrait photos or have portrait photo's taken. Portrait photography is when the photograph is focused on the person or person's facial expressions. The objectives to portrait photography are to display personality and mood of the subject or person. A portrait photograph is when the focus is on the person face although their body may be included. Also in a portrait photograph the person tends to look directly into the camera and are in a still postion, not a snap shot.
Portrait photography is usally used for peoples personal uses such as family events or school photographs. It doesnt have to have models or be put in garerllies, they are for people to have for themselves. Today, portrait photography is used for public use such as leaflets or authors photographs on the back of books.
Portraiture became popular after the daguerrrotype in the late 1900's. When portrait photography began the photographer would just use a plain background a minamal lighting from overhead windows or they would use anything that could be reflected using mirrors. As technolgoy became more advanced the styles of portrait photography grew and has become more creative. While technology was growing the photographers would become more exprimental and take photo's outside of the studio.
There are many portrait photographers, such as Diane Arbus, Walker Evans, Richard Avedon, Tony Vaccaro and Larry Clark. Each of these photographers had a different style of protraiture. Diane Arbus took many different portrait photographs but spent most of her time working with people who were classed as differnt from the rest of society. These people were dwarfs, giant, transvestites, nudiest and circus preformers. Some poeple have been known to call Arbus 'the photographer of freaks'. Arbus's work has previously been sold for thousands of dollars but it also causes lots of controvasy. Because Arubus was so quite people would be drawn into what she had to say and this made people more intresed in her work.
Tony Vaccaro was a photograher and a solidor, he photographed during the second world war and then after the war he became a fashion photograher for a U.S magazine
Larry Clark is an American photographer who best known for his book Tulsa. The book is about the young people in Tulsa Oklahoma. The book shows how the young people would shoot illegal drugs, have under age sex and were violent. The people of Tulsa were always known as good people and people didnt know that such acts would be done there untill the book was released and the proof was in the photographs. Clark says that when he would take a photo he would take it against the light and there is not a straight photo in the book.

Fashion Photography
Although phototgraphy began in the 1830's fashion photography didnt start until 1856 when Adolphe Braun published a book which contain 288 photo's of Virginia Oldoini. This made Virginia the first fashion model. Fashion photography made it's first appearance in French magazines such as 'La mode Partique'. in 1911 painter and photographer Edward Steichen was dared to promote fashion as a fine art by the use of photography. These photographers were published in the 1911 issue of ' Art et Decoration'. This photo shoot is now considered to be the first ever fashion photography shoot. Fashion photography is displaying the clothing and accsesories. It is mainly used for advertising purposes in magazines such as Vogue, Elle, Grazia and Vanity Fair.

Techniques of Arbus
Diane Arbus started photography when she was 18 and took many photo's during hyer time working as a photographer. Her work was unique as she took photo's of people who are classed as not part of society based on people's sexuality, the way people dressed, mental illness's, depression, drug use and people who are just different. When she was photographing children she would spend a lot of time with the children to get to know them and to get the photo's that she wanted to get. Her photo's were not flattering but they were intresting and this got people wanting to see her work. She also spoke very quitely, this meant people would lean in to listen to what she was saying and she didnt have to shout to get her point across. unfortunately in 1971 Diane Arbus took her own life but still to this day people are intrested in her work and talk about her and they way she photographed people.

Thomas Hoepker
It was a bright sunny autumn day people were ralxing in shorts and t-shirt, the sea was calm and a beautiful shade of blue, the trees and plants and brightly coloured with vibrant greens but in the background is a different story. A thick black clowd of smoke covers the sky while the buildings are burning beneath it. The people in the photograph appear not to be at all affected by the disaster happening just across the water, this caused the photo to cause a lot of controvasy when it was finally released on the fith annvesary of 9/11 and

Photojournalism part 2
Robert Capa was one of the photographers for the second world war. He said his rules for photography was
1) get close
2) get closer
Tony vaccaro was also a photographer in the second world war but was also a solidor. He made some of the best photographers of world war two. Vaccaro couldnt afford a likar unlike Capa so he felt jealous of capa's work. Instead he used a Argus c3.
They both thought of the photography rather than the survial.
When Vaccaro took one of his photo's of a man he felt the picture would look better from higher up so he stood on his tip toes and took the photo, he had been spotted and could hear the sound of the bullets hitting the tank as he jumped down to the floor and just looked and the body.
Everyone was waiting for the pictures that Capa had taken for example life magazine. People wanted to know what was happeing at war. When the pictures finally got back home the world wasnt ready to see what war was like and found it too shocking this lead to some of the photographs being banned.
The pictures tell you about being in the write place at the right time with a camera but also for surivival.
Roger Thenton also took pictures of a war that used horse and cannons but he was not on the frontline like Capa and Vaccaro he saw some of after the war, he took a picture of a pathway filled cannon balls. this image was just as powerful because people couldnt imagine being in this situation.
After world war two Capa wet to hollywood to continue taking photo's on a flim set and Vaccaro stayed in Germany.
Eddie Adams is the photographer that took the photograph in Vietnan of the police officer shooting the man in the head. When this image was taken it was also caught on film but the picture stayed in peoples heads more than the film footage as it is constanly there looking at it. the expression on the man's face stays with the viewers as they know it is when the bullet hits him.

photojornalism part 1
The desisive moment is when capturing an impage in a split second. One of the most famous disisive moment photographs is of the man jumping over the puddle. It is famous because of the way the man is jumping into the unknown, also the broken hoop was a big deal then as wheels were the first man made object and in this photograph it was broken lying on the floor. the whole photo was not planed which is what makes it so famous because it truely is a disisive moment.
Henri carter-bresson is known as the godfather of the disisve moment and is one of the leading people in the world of photojouralism. He is the photographer that took the photo of the man jumping over the puddle.
The leica camera was the first camera to have a quick shutter spead which meant that photographer could catch things right at the moment, whereas before it was impossible for people to do that as it could take at least 10 minutes to take a photograph. An example of this is the man having his shoe ploished, other people were around him but because of the camera you could not see these people in the photograph. Also the leica camera was very known for where the view-finder was on the camera, most have the veiw-finder in the middle so that the camera covered you face and you could not see anything aprt form through the veiw-finder. On the leica camera it was on the left hand side which meant people could see the world around them and also through the view-finder.
